Here you see what are now 30, 32, 34, & 36 North 3rd Street, circa 1859. You are looking diagonally southwards at the west side of 3rd Street. The building on the far right has a six-bay front and is still standing. You see the 2 left bays here. My apartment is in the right half of it today. Cool, huh? The stone facing on the upper floors has been removed and is now red brick. It is known as the Wister Building and was built ca. 1852

A view of Fourth Street, looking North from Walnut, ca. 1895. Almost all of these buildings are gone in what is now the area of Independence National Historic Park. This is what I've been told, but I haven't been able to match it up with any remaining buildings yet.

Merchants Exchange Building, near 3rd & Walnut. Still stands today, restored and part of the historic area. Architect was Wm. Strickland.

London Coffee House, Front & Market. Hangout for Merchants and revolutionaries from the mid 1700s, though the building was somehwat older. It lasted long enough to have this picture made. This was the first coffee house in all of the Americas.
